Some people might look at Yvettes Bridal and see the most disorganised site, possibly combined with a colour scheme created by a bull rampaging through a paint shop.

However, look past the low grade pictures and into the statistics and things become a little clearer. Alexa reports the site is in the top one million sites world wide and in the top half million in the US alone, plus the domain name alone has a value of over $7,000 USD. Whilst this feat is not an overly difficult prospect for a main stream site, what is interesting is that it has been achieved with such a bad design – or has it?

Yes the layout, colour scheme and image quality are poor in the extreme, however, could this have been the tactical all along, making the site a talking point? In marketing there is always more than one way to ‘skin a cat’ and whilst I’m not suggesting that everyone goes down this disorganised route, sometimes thinking a little differently can produce results.

Am I the only one who just sees the iPad as an iPhone on steroids?

Who is more famous, the iPad or Steve Jobs?

For what seems like an eternity the press have been telling us that Apple have this really secret product and the media build up to the launch was almost reached fever pitch. But, did none of the computer press see that Microsoft announced a very similar product a few weeks before – obviously trying to steal Apples thunder, and failing.

Sure the iPad is cool, sexy, sleek and the ‘must have’ product of 2010, but I find myself asking ‘what are people going to use it for?’ and ‘if I have an iPhone, do I really need an iPad too?’

Well I guess we will see what ‘really’ unique and useful applications will become available on these new platforms – and I hope they do, otherwise I cannot really justify owning one.

Applications: It will run iPhone software, including any of the 140,000 games, utilities and other titles in the App Store and comes with the new iBook ereader. The iWork office programs cost £6.19 each

Processor: Apple has specified its own chip, the 1GHz A4, for the iPad. Three sizes of memory will be available: 16GB, 32GB and 64GB

Screen: The 9.7in colour touchscreen is big enough, in landscape mode, to display a full-size keyboard

Battery: A claimed 10 hours’ usage, with wi-fi turned on and the screen at half-brightness

Its OK, Sir Tim Berners-Lee said typing "//" wasted people's time and required them to use more paper. "I could have designed it to not have '//'. Really, if you think about it, it doesn't need the '//'," he admitted.

Its OK, Sir Tim Berners-Lee said typing “//” wasted people’s time and required them to use more paper. “I could have designed it to not have ‘//’. Really, if you think about it, it doesn’t need the ‘//’,” he admitted.

Not only does he have regrets regarding the the double backslash, but has also hinted recently that even using the ‘www’ was a waste of time and energy.

“www” is redundant.

“www” is hard to say, much better to ‘wibbley, wobbly, web’.

“www” is a waste of time to type or write.

Think about it. Did you read something cool at “www.funky-software.net”, or did you read it at “funky-software.net”

“www” is old school and just no longer needed.

If you want to silently change your site from “www.domain.com” to “domain.com” you can do it with 3 lines of code. Place this code in your .htaccess file to redirect your “www.domain.com” to “domain.com” without disturbing visitors or your current search engine rankings:

RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www\.domain\.com$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://domain.com/$1 [R=301,L]

Its an easy thing to do for most people using an Open Source hosting environment.
